Operation 053 Spring Cleaning - please read this message carefully.

This mission has been designed to test your Situation Awareness. For good SA, you might need some background information, so please read the following. You should also take a look at the included map.

It is near the end of June, and during a long war your squad has successfully downed all enemy aircraft at Kaesong airbase, your WP 1 in this mission (west of your base, which is Dongducheon). On the other hand, all US aircrafts at Chuncheon (in the east) have been shot down by the terrible MiGs from the enemy airbase at Hyon Ni, and there is still a remarkable air fleet of seven Flankers located at Maeng San, far to the north. Things could not be worse. Then the light at the end of the tunnel appeared: Major Moon, commander of the Flanker fleet at Ichon (north of your base and your WP 2), who is a leader of the secret North Korean opposition and highly regarded by the people dwelling in this area, has agreed to come to Seoul to meet US representatives and settle the war. These representatives are now in a Boeing 727 approaching the Korean east coast. They will not be escorted for two reasons:
- not to attract attention
- because there are no more fighters available. You should meet the Boeing near your WP 3 and safely escort it to Seoul International (WP 4), after downing all possible air threats.
To avoid any threat from Hyon Ni (no WP), special US forces, using the cover of the night, have moved to this airbase. They will strike at 6.00 Zulu time, disabling any enemy aircraft there.

So far, so good. But last evening two things happened:
- two mobile SCUD launchers have been spotted at Kaesong, near the tower. They represent an imminent threat to Seoul and must be destroyed as soon as possible. They are not moving, so you will not be able to find them using your GMT radar. They are near the tower, aiming at Seoul.
- an armed column, sent by North Korean Colonel Myung Lee from Maeng San, has appeared at Ichon. Major Moon has been arrested. Colonel Lee ist known as a very intelligent and also cruel person, and he is the sworn enemy of Major Moon. He might be planning an onslaught on the peace conference or even Seoul itself. Fortunately Maeng San is far away, so Early Warning Radar stations, which have been set up by Major Moon at Ichon, will hopefully detect any aircraft coming from this direction.
Two hours after the bad news the good news arrived: North Korean rebel forces will attempt to free Major Moon. They will strike at 6.15 Zulu time, giving Major Moon a chance to escape with his Hind helicopter.

Your flight plan is:
- Takeoff at 6.00 Zulu time. At the same time the special forces will strike at Hyon Ni. (You will not be able able to hear the bang immediately - remember it is many miles away.)
- You, your two wingmen and an A-10 Warthog will go to Kaesong (WP 1). Your wingmen will perform SEAD, the A-10 will precision bomb the tower and the SCUD launchers. Save your missiles. Just make sure that the SCUDs and the tower are destroyed in time. Use your gun or cluster bombs, if necessary. As you have experienced wingmen, you can rely on them.
- Go to Ichon (WP 2) and fly a diversion. The tower has to be destroyed (rely on the Warthog, if it is still airborne). Do not hit the Hind on the helipad accidentially! Rebel forces will strike at 6.15, shortly thereafter Major Moon's helicopter will take off. If the enemy AAA at Ichon, still controlled by Colonel Lee's men, is not taken out in time, it will probably track the rotorcraft and kill Major Moon. A couple of F-14 Tomcats, the last remaining in this war, will be there for air suppression, as Colonel Lee and his Flankers will not sleep. Then send your wingmen home (else they might go for the SAM at Maeng San, which is not an easy target), thus leaving the helicopter safely between them and the Tomcats.
- Go to WP 3 and make sure that the Boeing reaches Seoul International (WP 4).
- Shake the hands of the people whose lifes you have just saved.

Do not forget to read this:

You are allready in your cockpit when you are receiving the following radio message:
- one MiG bomber has left Hyon Ni before the US strike and is heading for your base at high speed. Bearing: 053, altitude 4-5. Down it at all cost.
- Colonel Lee's Flankers have disappeared from Maeng San this night. Surely they have not been withdrawn. A Tupolev bomber takeoff at Maeng San has also been reported.
This forces you to change plans. It will not be possible to go to WP 1 immediately. Use all your skills, and don't forget: time is of the essence, and keep the mission objectives and loss conditions in mind!
Good luck.
